Description
The Lexington Swarm is an area-wide middle school and youth team consisting of players from any and all local public, independent, and home schools in the Lexington area. The purpose of the Lexington Swarm is to provide girls ages 11-14 with a practice venue, coaching on fundamentals and team concept, and competitive play as an introduction to lacrosse.
Requirements
To be a team player on the Lexington Lizards,
the following conditions must be met:
1) The player must be a female between the ages
of 11 and 14 (6th - 8th grade).
2) The player must be a current member of US
Lacrosse ($25/year).
3) The player must have a passion for lacrosse,
an interest in learning new skills and fundamentals, and a desire to
participate on a competitive team--in general to HAVE
FUN!
In addition, parents are asked to be active members
of the program as providing support as "team mom or dad" (coordinator
of volunteer efforts and board member of LYLA), time-keepers, score-keepers,
orange wedge/power drink providers, transportation/car-poolers
to local games, and our SUPER
FANS!
Practices and Games
During the Fall Season (October - November), skills development clinics are held once weekly to instruct on stick skills, throwing, catching, shooting, and other fundamentals of the game. The only equipment required for the Fall Season is a lacrosse stick. During the Spring Season (March - May), full practices are held twice a week to develop team dynamics, initiate physical contact, and practice offensive and defensive plays. Full equipment including goggles and mouthpiece is required. In cases of financial need, LYLA has a meager supply of equipment available on a first-come, first-served basis.
