Description

The Lexington Lions are a high school team composed of players from the Lexington area attending all local public, private, and home schools. At the high school level, players build off of fundamental skills to enhance game strategies and additional competitive, complex lacrosse play.

Requirements

To be a team player on the Lexington Lions, the following conditions are required:
1) The player must be female and attend either high school public, private, or home school.
2) The player must be a current member of US Lacrosse ($25/year).
3) The player must have a passion for lacrosse, a desire to participate on a competitive team, and be eager to learn one of the fastest growing sports in the nation!

As a relatively new sport in the Lexington area, volunteers are critical in maintaining the behind-the-scenes work of lacrosse. Parents are asked to provide team support by being time-keepers, score-keepers, aid in car-pooling/transportation, and be TEAM FANS!

Practices and Games

During the Fall Season (October-November), skills development clinics are held once weekly to instruct on stick skills, throwing, catching, shooting, and other fundamentals of the game. The equipment required for the Fall Season is a lacrosse stick, goggles, and a mouth guard. During the Spring Season (March-May), full practices are held 2-3 times weekly to develop team dynamics, offensive and defensive plays, and more game strategies. In cases of financial need, LYLA has a meager supply of equipment available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are roughly 10 games during the Spring Season, played against Louisville high school teams. Games are split between home games to be played in Lexington, and away games to be played in Louisville about once a week.
