Kentucky Country Day Dominates at Stickhead's Fall Brawl

	The KCD Varsity lacrosse team began their fall season this weekend by entering the Stickhead Fall Brawl 7x7 Lacrosse Tournament held at Tom Sawyer Park. It was a 3 to 4 game schedule with 2 divisions. Participating schools included St. Xavier, Trinity, CAL, Oldham, Manual, Ballard, and others. KCD opened the tournament against Male and in short order, had a significant lead by the end of the first half and followed through with a win by the score of 15 – 9. A few hours later, KCD played Oldham and had a 5 – 0 lead within the first few minutes of play. The final score was 18 – 3. Shortly thereafter, KCD played Ballard in the semi finals. KCD dominated the game and won by a final score of 17 – 4. The final championship game was between KCD and CAL. KCD was behind by two goals in the first few minutes which was the first time they were behind in the tournament. KCD roared back to one of their strongest performances of the tournament and led 6 – 2 prior to halftime. KCD also scored three goals within 2 minutes of the second half to prevent CAL from attempting a comeback. The final score was 25 – 11. This was truly representative of a strong team effort with contributions by all players. It’s interesting to note that our veteran defenseman also scored at least 4 goals in the tournament. Many freshmen scored multiple times and showed strong defensive skills. The veterans showed much improvement from last year and KCD was without 5 veterans during the tournament. The varsity team was also somewhat handicapped as a few members of the team played a JV football game earlier in the day and were not at full strength. Finally, this wouldn’t have been possible without our coach and assistants who were consistently mentoring and coaching our players and the faithful spectators and parents on the sideline supporting the coaches and team.
